My site of the week, Family Education, is one of the best I’ve found this year. Not only do they offer message boards for you to talk to other parents and teachers, they also have great articles on the best ways to raise your kids. So get them tucked into bed, log on to the Internet, and surf over to www.familyeducation.com.

Microsoft Word really hasn't changed that much in a couple of years. Come to think of it, there really isn't that much difference between Office XP, Office 2003, and Office 2007. So why do people constantly pull out their wallets and buy the most current versions of software that haven't changed that much? Simple: "Creeping Featurism." Wanting to sell more software, but stumped as to what to make it better, software companies, like Microsoft tend to throw every "feature" they can into it, kind of the kitchen sink approach. Granted, you will never use most of these advanced features, but hey, if you need them, you have them, right? Well, as more features are added, guess what, the program becomes bigger, slower, and more prone to crashing. Anything to make a buck, eh? If you want some free office software, check out openoffice.org.

Sometimes I just need a laugh, and my site of the week, Tomatoes are Evil, did just that. This site is dedicated to proving that this red fruit masquerading as a vegetable is, in fact, the spawn of Satan. They even have games where you can shoot tomatoes. A warning, though. It is a veggie-hate site. Proceed at your own risk to tomatoesareevil.com.

My theory is that it was started by an angry carrot.

The Commute: Travelling to and from work everyday can be pretty tedious. If you live in a very large city, this travelling time can use up 2 hours of every day! Some companies are now giving their employees another option, telecommuting. A computer with a connection to the Internet is set up at the employee's home. The employee works from home, taking calls, receiving faxes, and writing reports. Once a week, however, the employee will go to the office for meetings and other appointments. You don't see too much telecommuting in Amarillo, yet. The trend usually starts in cities with traffic problems. And not all jobs are appropriate for telecommuting. But I think you will see this option being made available to more and more people.
