Online adventuring usually costs a little. But not at my site of the week, Dungeon Runners. This FREE Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG), is one of the best ones I’ve seen in a while. They currently have over 100,000 players. You can upgrade to a paid account to get more powerful weapons, but the free version is fine for me. Grab your sword, shield, and jump into battle at dungeonrunners.com.

More and more people are jumping online to play the latest hot games. Heck, I’ve even made some of these my sites of the week. But before you start pounding the keyboard and clicking that mouse, keep in mind these simple, but essential rules: Most online games involve playing real people in real time. To make it more sociable, these games allow chatting. Never, never, never, give out personal info about your self in these chat areas. Some games actually control what you can chat about. Disney’s Pirates of the Carribean is a good example. Oh, and never choose a username that in some way identifies you in the real world. Make something up so fantastical, your friends would wonder about you if they found out. Also, never fall for the old “Hi, I’m an employee of the game company and need to verify your credit card so you can keep playing.” Scam! Identity Thief. Now, folks, I’m not trying to scare you away from these games, just be careful, ok?

So, you’ve got your laptop, a cup of java, and just need a place to surf the Net. You’re on a HotSpot Hunt. Chances are you know your local coffee house or bookstore has a hotspot, but what about the others. Thousands of Wireless access points exist in this city. Can you connect to anyone of them? Legally? Well, that question is still being debated online, but, technically, and legally, you cannot gain access to someone else’s computer network without their permission. Just because your PC CAN connect to their Internet connection doesn’t make it right. But turn that around. Can anyone driving by your house use your wireless connection? I hope not, because with certain software, they can then access your PC. If you have a wireless access point in your house, make sure it is locked down with a password. Call the access point manufacturer for more information.

Why rent movies when you can borrow them from your friends? That’s the question my site of the week asks. BorrowMyFlix.com allows you to catalog, search, discuss with friends, and even coordinate trades of all your movies. It all starts by creating a free account. Then, convince your friends to create their own accounts, add their movies into the database, and then start trading. If none of your friends has what you want, search for the movie and then ask the owner to make you a friend. Sounds a little like myspace , doesn’t it? Really cool. Really Free.
