Word - If you are working with multiple columns in your document and need to jump from column to column at times, use the ALT key in conjunction with the up and down arrow keys. If you press Alt + Down Arrow, the insertion point is moved to the top of the next column. If you press Alt + Up Arrow, the insertion point goes to the top of the previous column.

Word Tip: Open Recent Files Quicker

To quickly open recent files, press ALT + F to open the file Menu. Then press 1, 2, 3, or 4 or the number that corresponds in front of the recent document – you wish to open. This tip works in Excel, too!

Hopefully you’ve learned one of our most handy shortcuts by now, and that CTRL + Z will undo any change. For example, if you cut text, pressing this will undo it. This can also often be pressed multiple times to undo multiple changes. Likewise, pressing CTRL + Y would redo the undo!

Word Tip: Printing Envelopes

To print an envelope, pull down the Tools menu and choose “Letters and Mailings” and then “Envelopes and Labels.” If you had highlighted an address before going here, the address would already be inserted. Cool!

Make a mistake? Instead of pulling down the Edit menu to hit “undo,” simply hit Ctrl-Z. This shortcut works in other programs as well.

Microsoft Word Tip: Paste Special

When copying and pasting text, I usually choose “Paste Special” from the Edit menu (instead of plain old “paste”) and then choose “Unformatted text.” That way, the new text inherits the formating of the text around it. Less cleanup!
