After all, how do you convince people on your website to pick up the phone or shoot you an email?While online forms can give a visitor a no-hassle channel to contact you, most of your site visitors will choose to remain, well, anonymous. I’m Eric Spellmann with Spellmann & Associates. And today’s topic is The Key to Online Lead Generation. That’s right, generating qualified leads. People calling you about the products or services you are offering, using your website.
There are basically 5 key ingredients. And the first one, Define your Target Demographic. In other words, who you’re trying to reach? Most people believe it or not, who have business have never sat down and thought who is my perfect customer? Who is the excellent person that I’m trying to reach with my perfect products and services?

Easiest way to think about it is this. Because I know a lot of you will probably wanna say everyone is my potential customer. But they’re not! The easiest way to think about your potential customer is this. Think about the customer you currently have, who you make the most money on and get the least amount of grief. In other words, you have the most margin with but get the least amount of anxiety.

That is your perfect customer. That is who your website needs to target. That is who you need to target. In other words, if you could carbon copy that person over and over and over, you’d be happy. So step 1, figure out who you’re trying to reach. And what they want.

Step 2, build content to attract searches. Understanding who you’re going after is key because you have to know what they’re searching for. You have to think like they think. And build your website the way they want it to be, not the way you want it to be!

I’ve published videos on this subject of what should be in that content. But basically, you need to think like the person you’re trying to reach. Type things into Google the way they would and then create content so that Google considers you extremely relevant to those kinds of searches. And like I said, I’ve already made videos that explain what must be in that content, if you wanna watch one of them.

Incentivize the conversion. Realize that when everyone goes to your website, there’s nothing that’s going to make them contact you. In fact, in most cases they’re not! They’re gonna be anonymous shoppers and there’s no way for you to know who actually visited your website unless they tell you! So the easiest way to get them to tell you is to incentivize them. Give them a reason. I call it The Trade. And I have a number of videos on How to Generate The Trade.

The Trade is basically offering them something for their time. So for instance, if you’re a realtor, you may wanna offer a report on the Top 10 mistakes You can’t afford to make when selling your house. And you see that would give people something to want, something to desire. And you can say “Hey give me a call if you have any questions or contact me with this form on my website. And that’s my way of saying Thank you.

I’ll give you this heavily asked for report on 10 mistakes You can’t afford to make while selling your house. Believe it or not, you can triple, even quadruple your leads just by doing that. Use Social Media correctly. Social Media, if done right, will drive a lot of people to your website and then a number of those to actually make a decision with you. I’ve actually seen situations that companies who use Social Media correctly, can actually drive leads bypassing their own website and cause people to call you directly!

The key is to understand what social media is for! And once again, I know this sounds repetitive, but I’ve done videos on the Perfect Facebook Business Post as a good example. But to sum it all up, you need to remember that social media is really not to generate leads as much as it is to interact. And through that interaction you create the indirect ability to generate leads.

So, use social media correctly, interact with people, ask their opinion, put a call to action in your posts, you’ll be good to go. Once you do those things, do it again, and again, and again.

The key to generating qualitative traffic to your website is understanding that its basically a simple process. As long as you get out there and actually do it. The websites and the people who have websites who actually build good content, understand who they’re going after, create good trades and utilize social media correctly. They’re generating leads on a regular basis! And in many cases, those leads are turning directly into sales.
